If I had my way

If I had my way
I would want the world to not even notice that some people
were black
some were yellow and some were white.
If I had my way
I would want men and women to be able to compete equally for important jobs
and responsible positions
If I had my way
I would want people's sexuality and orientations
to be private
and not the subject of snide innuendo.
If I had my way
I would want to celebrate that people
had different and rich ethnic backgrounds
and feel glad that sometimes I could glimpse into other people's heritage
and feel not judgmental, but privileged to know that some peoiple have grown up differently from me
I actually find it extraordinary that anyone should want it any other way
