Don't treat people as commodities

In today's Murdoch press Tory Shepherd makes an interesting, if some what cynical, point about SA becoming a ‘gay mecca’; (here) surely a more civilised goal should be a society where people are accepted for who and what they are, rather than only being seen as targets for niche marketing.
The reality is that it is easy to stereotype gay people as interested in theatre, art, wine and food thus identifying a narrow demographic for advertisers. Research would suggest that this stereotyping is not an accurate picture of homosexual people who are present at every level of society and just as diverse. Our goal should be acceptance not caricature.
