The shameful politics of self-interest

It is indeed a disgrace that we should pretend that diverting foreign aid funds to our corrupt immigration game playing is a legitimate use of those funds.
We give little enough foreign aid as it is. We pretend that it supports the poor and needy (and some of us begrudge that). But in reality it is usually targeted at the political needs of our allies. It suits us to support our mates.
But when we start using it for own political needs then we have hit rock bottom.(some sort of story here  but it is the Murdoch press)
