The gift of the good snooze

One of the bizarrest of the invitations that the new phone applications offer is this sleep analysis.

Each night you bed your phone down next to you and it monitors your level of sleep. I suppose what it is really doing is measuring how much you toss and turn.

It then decides when to set off the alarm (within 30 mins of the desired waking time)...so that you don't get startled.

It sort of seems to work, though I had my doubts.

You can then review your night's sleep.

The graph alongside is one such and was particularly interesting for me, because I was beginning to doubt it's validity.

I said to K as we made our morning coffee...how did you sleep last night? She said...did you hear the incredible storm during the night...I observed that I hadn't registered any storm.

She assured me there was such about 3.45 a.m,.

I just thought I slept through. But, if you observe the sleep graph, sometime shortly after 3.30 I was obviously roused from my deeper slumbers! So it looks as though it works.

The only question is what use to make of this information other than to be reassured that I am obviously doing pretty well in the sleep stakes. Or alternatively that I lie pretty still even when I am awake. This too is true!

Where shall I begin to tell the story

More than one person's eyes have begun to glaze over as I started to tell them the story of how the relatively simple task of changing internet providers (rofl) dragged on for over ten days (nearly a fortnight in fact), then Sunday a phone call from India to say that the internet would be being connected on Monday.

Having destroyed contact with our previous provider - Big Pond- it was high time, and we were all getting a little tetchy. Sure enough yesterday someone rang at 12.20 p.m. to say that internet would happen soon.

We were out for three hours, but not surprised to see that there was a still a red light on the modem ...indicating that there "was a birth certainly"...but not quite there yet.

I optimistically thought it would simply (again rofl) be a matter of putting in new accounts and new passwords. At 12.25 a.m. (two phone calls to India later) I decided that I couldn't do this all; night...and grabbed my eye mask and went to bed. OOOh my head ached..and I slept poorly.

Finally at 5.30 a.m. I risked getting up, and rang India again. This time Said fixed the problem in 10 minutes. It is both a question of what and who you know obviously.

This all begs the question of why this didn't take 10 minutes 24 hours, or 7 days ago!

You should do it every now and then

You should untangle your computer cord every now and then.
Yesterday I slid the free wheeling shelf under my computer desk and it slid completely out. The phone fell on the floor, and the broadband which has been touchy for a fortnight stopped working.
I looked down at the floor and thought 'I don't know where to begin' though not quite as bad as the mess at left!
It had to wait for a day and took me about an hour to unravel everything, and extract the half a dozen cords that weren't even attached to anything!!
A little bit more fiddling. I moved the tower off the desk ( crikey Moshe I just had to answer to door to the Jehovah's Witnesses!!...they sucked me in by asking me what I was preaching about tomorrow...of course I couldn't resist)...any way when I moved the tower I pulled the curtain down. But it is now back up. All phones seem to be working again...no maybe still one more to do...and I am making soup for church lunch tomorrow.
